Why is my guinea pig squeaking?

My guinea pig squeaks constantly, I'll feed it, it will pause to eat but less then a minute later it will start again. If I hold it it'll stop squeaking, but start to squirm, I'll put it down then it'll start up again! Is this normal? I just adopted him a monthor so ago, and he does it more every day!
